This week marks Australian Made Week!

Powersafe is one of 86,000 small-to-medium businesses manufacturing in Australia, and in the portable power board sector, the only business proudly bearing the coveted Australia-made symbol on many of their products.

Powersafe celebrates Australian Made Week every week – Australian-designed, Australian electricians, Australian ingenuity – and maybe even an Australian beer after work.

Employing qualified Australian electricians to build a range of portable power boards and extension leads onsite at its Coolum Beach premises, Michael Mcilrick, General Manager of Powersafe, said that there were very real benefits in opting for manufacturing in Australia.

“Quality control and flexibility are the two main advantages we have building our boards here in Australia, as opposed to overseas,” said Mr Mcilrick.

“Powersafe puts a high priority on quality controls, first achieving our ISO9001 accreditation in 2013. Building power boards locally allows us to stay up to date with current Australian standards.

“We can easily change parts and/or procedures to stay current with both the standards and our customers’ expectations.

“Particularly in these times of limited overseas travel, manufacturing on-site allows for much more oversight throughout the entire build.

“Our qualified electricians are aware of Australian standards which is also a great advantage.

“Around 30% of power boards that we build are custom-made, orders that can be delivered much quicker when the factory floor is 30 steps from our offices rather than in another time zone and country. Flexibility is a massive advantage for manufacturing in Australia.”

Recent research reveals that 93% of Australians prefer to buy products made in Australia. Research released by the Australian Made Campaign estimates that if every household spent an extra $10 per week on Australian Made products, an additional $5 billion would be generated in our economy over the year, creating 11,000 new jobs.
